Tagged! Anything but books!

A decidedly different getting-to-know-you type of challenge this time, in that it’s not about books (either the reading or the writing of them).  Sreesha tagged me and before I get started, here’s the how it works. There’s a set of questions and your answers have to be about anything – as the name suggests – but books.

My first thought,? Oh this could be tricky …

Name a cartoon(s) that you love

My all time favourite cartoon is Chuck Jones’ “What’s Opera Doc?” where Bugs Bunny drives Elmer Fudd crazy whilst Wagner’s “Ring Cycle” plays. The chorus of “Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit!” is just magical.  And I normally hate Wagner …

What is your favorite song right now?

I don’t listen to anything other than talk radio, so I thought I’d pick my current ear-worms instead :

“One” from Chorus Line
“There’s a guy works down the chip shop swears he’s Elvis” by Kirsty McColl

Yeah, decidedly random, but that’s ear-worms for you.

What could you do for hours (that isn’t reading)?

People watching. I’m really curious and find people endlessly fascinating. I like it even better when I get to talk to strangers and find out about their interesting lives.

What is something you love to do that your followers would be surprised by?

I love to watch Spitfires.

My boyfriend is a fan of all kinds of militaria, so I go to a lot of military shows and museums. I just love spitfires – I always have – even before I met him. I can recognise the sound of their engines well before I spot their distinctive outline in the sky. Of course, it’s all hugely evocative of the Battle of Britain and the last time Britain was great and had done something to be truly proud of.

What is your favourite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about (this can do with books, I guess)?

Photography mostly. I’ve a new DSLR camera and I watch a lot of YouTube clips to learn about equipment, techniques, hints ‘n tips … ‘cos there’s always something new to learn. When I first started, I felt overwhelmed with how much there was. But I’ve learned to limit myself, putting things into practice before going on to learn about the next thing.

What is something unusual you know how to do?

Bokeh!

It’s that out of focus background to photographs. OK, so it’s a common enough photography technique, but it is an unusual word …

Name something you’ve made in the last year (and show us, if you can).

I haven’t made anything crafty in years. The last time was when I handmade invitations for the weddings of my brother and my sister, each of which happened within a year of one another. My daughter intended to design and make them but – somehow – was too busy with her degree, so I stepped in. They were very different in style and I really enjoyed the whole process from coming up with ideas to actually making them. Wouldn’t want to do it as a business though!

What is your most recent personal project?

Setting up in business as a Life Coach and training to become an NLP Practitioner.

Tell us something you think about often (maybe while staring out of windows).

Home. Where it’ll be, what it’ll look like. I plan decor, furnishings, exterior and interior, what’s on the wall … you name it, I day-dream about it. For the first time in my life, I’m in the position of not having to live in a particular part of the country due to work or other commitments … and it is boggling my mind, as I can now choose to live almost anywhere.

Give us something that’s your favourite, but make it something oddly specific, not like your favourite food, but like your favourite food when you’ve been studying for hours and forgot to eat. Or, you know, something like that.

Bed – more specifically lazy weekend mornings in my bed. I bought it 10 years ago. It was totally not my usual style – it’s a tad too curly cue – yet I really love it. It’s a kingsize iron-bedstead, loaded up with quilts, two which were hand-made for me by my daughter. It feels very snuggly and safe. When I was single, I used to go back to bed on a weekend morning with the tea tray, some hot buttered toast and the telephone to catch up with a friend. One of my favourite pastimes.

And now, I get to tag a few other bloggers to encourage them to share their answers.

I’d like to tag David, Sue, Sarah, Giggling & Melinda. Please share your answers on your blogs (or in the comments section here – whichever you prefer). Oh & I absolutely promise this is the last time I will tag anyone for ages …

  1. Hey Debra! Thank you so much for taking up the tag. Loved the answers. Just realized – I should’ve picked people watching as my answer to that question too! I love doing that. (And of course bed on lazy weekends ❤️)

  2. Ah Sreesha, it was a bit of a cheat on my part, as what writer amongst us doesn’t love people watching!
