Some weekends are mapped out well in advance, others happen in a more reactive sense. One Saturday morning, while sitting comfortably in front of the TV, clutching a mug of tea in one hand and my Kindle in the other, Himself suggested we hop in the car and go the Lea Valley Water Park (where they’d hosted the canoeing during the 2012 London Olympics). He’d spotted a local BBC report about an event and as sporting photography wasn’t something I’d tried my hand at yet, we went.
Deciding against taking my zoom lenses, as they’re heavy and I’m having back trouble, I settled instead on my two fastest lenses. When we arrived, all the other photographers were using this ilk of lenses …
… although note the monster lens he’s not using. Even though we weren’t permitted water-side access like the pros – we were able to get really close to the action.
Here’s my results. Rafts first …
Moving on to the canoe slalom …
Who knows what this weekend will bring. Enjoy yours!

Thanks Sarah, it was fun. I’m feeling inspired to give more sporting photography a go. Am wondering how to persuade Himself down to the local rugby club 😉
