I’ve not done a music related post for a while, so here’s a collection of bits & pieces of music which gives me pleasure…
Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay “Sunny”
There’s a better quality video of him performing this at the Montreux Jazz Festival, but I prefer this stripped back version with Jools Holland on piano.
Dead South “In Hell I’ll Be In Good Company”
In truth, the video gives me pleasure too 🙂
Robert Palmer “She Makes My Day”
My brother & sister-in-law choose this for their wedding. Despite it being both his & her second time up the aisle, they still beat me to the punch as it’s what I’d have chosen 🙂
John Lee Hooker & Carlos Santana “The Healer”
A fan of both, I stumbled upon this and have loved it ever since.
Snow Patrol “Chasing Cars”
Not a song I had any affection for until I became a regular at my local rugby club where this was the unofficial anthem – sung when drink taken, while standing on tables waving a pint in the air (yes, me included, although I was a bit younger and a lot fitter at the time).
Tom Odell “Can’t Pretend”
This was played over an advertisement in the UK. For most songs, that’s a death knell, but somehow it got under my skin instead.
The Travelling Wilburys “Handle With Care”
George Harrison’s own little band of star turns – what’s not to love?
Yo Yo Ma & Itzsak Perlman “Slavonic Dance Op 72, No 2 in E minor”
I came late to classical music, but fell in love with the cello almost immediately.
Ryuichi Sakamoto “Amore”
He composed music for The Last Emperor and Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, but I heard this when I was suffering heartbreak and it struck a chord.
Amy Winehouse “Me and Mr Jones”
A favourite of mine. Here’s a live performance in 2006 before things went bad – what a voice.
I stopped listing to the radio many years ago, so I tend to be reliant on recommendations – hit me with yours please.
